"To be a Ranger is to sense the sacred trust of upholding all that such a name means in this shrine of football. They must be true in their conception of what the Ibrox tradition seeks from them. No true Ranger has ever failed in the tradition set him." - William Struth

Remembering Absent Friends

Thursday, 2nd January 2014

Today Vanguard Bears were honoured that Willie Frazer agreed to lay a wreath at the VB mural on the Shankill to remember our dear departed brothers and sisters who so tragically were taken from us 43 years ago today.

VB are indebted to Willie for carrying this duty out on our behalf, and we would also like to thank VB's contact in Belfast for arranging this today.

Below is a transcript of Willie's speech, followed by a video of the laying of the wreath.

"I am very honoured to have been asked to lay a wreath in memory of the 66 people who lost their lives on stairway 13, on the 2nd January 1971.

On this the 43rd Anniversary of what has become known as 'The Ibrox Disaster' our thoughts are with the families of those who perished but also those injured and the survivors of that fateful day. The scars left by that terrible tragedy 43 years ago still run deep and they always will, because of the affinity that the Rangers family hold not only at home, but all around the world.

The 2nd of January 1971 will always be etched deeply into the soul of the Rangers family and as generations come and generations go, the feelings, the memories and the stories of that fateful day will never change and although they are gone, those who are not with us today in flesh will stay in our hearts forever.

We will always remember them."
